09-01-19 5:30 am 328 Lbs vs 09-01-17 360.4 Lbs
On May 30th, 2019 my blood pressure treatment was increase to include second drug that had been added after they had quadrupled the dose of the first medication I'd been taking for a couple of years.
This Scared Me!
So on that day I started a Bullet Journal and weighed in at 358.2 Lbs.
The next day, June 1st, I began to practice Intermittent Fasting. I didn't eat until four in the afternoon.
The following day, the 2nd, there was a birthday party and there was so much junk food it spilled into the next day. So the 3rd was a bust too. None the less, I did keep track of my entire binge.
On June 4th I got back on track. It was a Monday and did well for the rest of the week until Saturday the 8th when I went off the riles again because everyone around me was indulging as well.
Kinda an environmental thing.
The following week I did okay but seem to be eating a lot of fast food. This was because of traveling for numerous medical appointments for the whole family. I live with my Dad who is 87 year old . My 42 year old brother, Michael, who has Downs Syndrome. Then there is the 3 of us, Sisters, all in our 50's. The whole household is struggling with obesity.
I am a Veteran of the U.S. Army (1980-1984). Because of my service I am eligible for some VA benefits and they are presently my healthcare provider.
The Veterans Administration has a weight management program called MOVE! I attended their orientation class on June 18th. The first thing we did was weigh-in. That day at ten in the morning I weighed 361.5 Lbs.
The MOVE! program's tagline is:
Live Well!
Eat Wisely - MOVE! More - Weigh Less
The program has the same old low calorie/low fat diet that hasn't worked for 50 years. And the slightly newer fill your plate 3/4 full of plant based food craze. Someone my size is allowed between 2,500 to 3,000 calories per day according to their chart. Since I had already decided to restricted my intake to below 2,500 this wasn't going to be a problem.
They also promoted the 3 meals a day with two snacks or beverages so you are eating every 3 to 4 hours. Advice that was contrary to what I had planned.
They do have cute acronyms like --
FITT (physical fitness) which stands for Frequency; Intensity; Time; and Type of Activity.
F- start 2 or 3 days a week and work up to 5
I- during your work out you should be able to talk but not sing
T- start with at least 10 minutes a day and work up to 30
T - Aerobic, Strength or Flexibility
or --
SMART (goal setting): Specific; Measurable; Action-oriented; Realistic; Time-based
S- what will you do?
M- How much and how will you know?
A- Commit to it and do it!
R- Is you expectations reasonable?
T- When will you meet your goal?
Using their guidelines I made the goal to lose 10% of my weight in 6 months. In other words 36 pounds by December 18th, 2019 or weigh 325.5 Lbs. by Christmas! ( I'm within two and a half pounds of that goal in just ten weeks. Go Keto!)
They ended the orientation with that your health needs to be a priority, that you are worth the effort, be good to yourself, you have the power to tip the scales (pun intended) and "Think positively!"
I will because I'm positive that Keto is going to work.
On my next post I will share what I learned in the VA's weigh management classes as I "MOVE!"😉 closer to my Keto story.
